Opening Night Celebration · Original Production
Sunday, June 15 | 21:00 | Ashdod Performing Arts Center
An original production featuring a powerful collaboration between the Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod and jazz musician Omer Avital, coming together to create a musical experience that goes far beyond music.
The Israeli Andalusian Orchestra Ashdod, recipient of the Israel Prize, has sparked a revolution in the local music scene and helped shape the soundtrack of the Israeli melting pot.
Omer Avital is a virtuoso composer who has left his mark on the world of jazz and enriched the jazz canon — and music as a whole — with North African sound and experience. In the 1990s, Avital became one of the prominent figures in New York’s jazz scene, and for three decades he has been creating a complete, distinctive world of sound and presence.
In A North African Dream, a musical dialogue unfolds on stage between the Andalusian Orchestra and Avital, resulting in an evening that offers an exceptional, authentic experience. The concert is structured as a four-chapter symphonic work: Father – a liturgical poem; The Dream; Eastern Melancholy; and The Return of the African Jew.
